Russia’s New Drone Trick: Weapons That Cannot Be Jammed
Russia has taken the lead in the drone war with a new technology that Ukraine cannot counter. Experts warn: The West must act quickly if the balance is not to tip too far.
Ukrainian Drones Losing Momentum
At the start of the conflict, Ukraine transformed inexpensive hobby drones into highly effective weapons. An aircraft costing hundreds of thousands of dollars could be shot down by a drone costing as little as $1,000. The country’s largest manufacturer, General Cherry, has seen explosive growth — from producing 100 units to 100,000 units per month.
But even that is not enough, says CEO Andriy Lavrenovych:
“Our soldiers ask every day for more, faster, and better drones. Russia has a massive army and resources we cannot match.”

Russia’s Technological Breakthrough
Moscow has not only ramped up production. According to Ukrainian sources, Russia now masters a new type of drone guided by a fiber-optic cable. Unlike radio-controlled units, these cannot be jammed by electronic warfare — a breakthrough that could change the game on the battlefield.
Oleksandr “Drakar,” head of development at a Ukrainian drone company, explains:
“The Russians started earlier and have already scaled production. They are receiving massive support from Chinese factories, which supply fiber in large quantities.”
China Supplies — The West Hesitates
While Russia secures technological and industrial support from China, Ukraine struggles with shortages of vital components. Chips, sensors, and fibers are hard to find. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has therefore once again called on the West to provide more support — especially financially.
The War of the Future Is a Drone War
Already today, 80% of attacks on the battlefield are conducted with drones. Military experts warn that whoever wins the drone race in Ukraine will gain an advantage in future conflicts.
The war in Ukraine has become a baptism of fire for new methods of warfare. And if the West wants to be prepared for the next conflict, investment in technology must begin now — before it is too late.
