Ukrainian Special Forces Seize Russian Positions in the Kursk Region
Despite Russian claims of control, Ukrainian forces continue their operations on enemy territory.
In a well-coordinated operation on April 26, operators from Ukraine’s 73rd Special Operations Center carried out a daring assault on Russian forces in the Kursk region.
According to the Special Operations Forces’ press service, the Ukrainians successfully infiltrated enemy territory and inflicted significant losses on Russia’s 810th Naval Infantry Brigade.
Despite claims from the Chief of the Russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, that the Kursk region has been “liberated” from Ukrainian forces, recent developments suggest otherwise. “While the Chief of the Russian General Staff reports the ‘liberation’ of the Kursk region from Ukraine’s defense and security forces, operators from the 73rd Special Operations Center continue to carry out successful missions in the area,” the Ukrainian forces stated.
Captives Taken Despite Heavy Resistance
The outcome of the operation was not only the destruction of enemy troops but also the capture of two Russian soldiers. One of the captured soldiers had to be carried away on a stretcher by the Ukrainian special forces, while the other was able to leave the area on foot.
This action underscores that the battle in Kursk is far from over. Despite official statements from Russian authorities, Ukrainian forces continue to challenge the enemy’s presence and maintain control over selected positions.

Fighting Continues – Russia Responds
According to Ukraine’s General Staff, as of April 27, five separate clashes had been recorded in the Kursk region. In addition, there was a Russian airstrike involving two precision-guided bombs, along with a total of 140 artillery attacks, seven of which were carried out using rocket launchers.
The massive Russian firepower reflects an attempt to push the Ukrainian units back, but the special forces’ actions suggest that Ukraine remains capable of conducting offensive operations behind enemy lines.
Drones Play a Key Role
In addition to land operations, Ukrainian drone units have also contributed to maintaining pressure on Russian forces. Bombus Group recently reported that their operators destroyed a KAVZ-39765 bus in the Kursk region—a bus reportedly used to transport Russian soldiers.
Although it has not yet been confirmed whether the bus was used directly in combat operations, the use of such vehicles for frontline logistics has been documented previously.
